Interior Designer
As an Interior Designer based in Calgary, you will assist with day-to-day design tasks while supporting projects through all stages of delivery. Working under the guidance of the Project Manager and Design Team, you will help create interior design concepts and space plans, select finishes, materials, furniture, and lighting, and prepare 2D drawings and 3D visualizations. You will collaborate closely with project team members and contractors and support bringing design concepts to life. Responsibilities
Community-Focused Design Support: Assist in the design and development of interior spaces, including activity rooms, learning areas, multipurpose spaces,
offices, and common areas.
- Youth-Centered Space Planning: Support space planning and layout development that promotes safety, accessibility, flexibility, and positive youth
engagement.
- Project Coordination: Assist in coordinating interior design project activities, timelines, and deliverables under the guidance of project managers.
- Design Development: Assist with creating welcoming, age-appropriate, and culturally inclusive design concepts, color palettes, and material selections.
- Furniture & Equipment (FF&E): Support the selection and coordination of durable, budget-conscious furniture, fixtures, and equipment suitable for high-use
community environments.
- Material Research: Research finishes and materials that are durable, low-maintenance, sustainable, and compliant with safety and accessibility
standards.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Support communication with contractors, project team, community representatives to ensure design intent meets user needs.
- Budget Awareness: Assist with tracking furniture allowances, material costs, and vendor quotes to support budget-conscious design solutions.
- Site & Installation Support: Participate in site visits, furniture installations, and punch lists to support successful project completion.
- Documentation & Admin Support: Maintain design files, sample libraries, meeting notes, and presentation materials related to community projects.
- Social Impact Awareness: Support design strategies that promote well-being, creativity, learning, and community connection for youth users.
- Design Documentation: Prepare 2D Drawings and 3D visualizations.
Who Are You / Qualifications Needed
- Working knowledge of design software is recommended, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar programs.
- Basic understanding of interior design principles, materials, and space planning
- Strong project management and time-management skills
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow within a team environment
- Attention to detail and enthusiasm for design
